CEVA doubles warehousing capacity at regional distribution center in Leipzig
CEVA creates new mezzanine for medical device customer Medtronic Frankfurt, Germany, 16 December, 2013 – CEVA Logistics, one of the world’s leading supply chain management companies, has commissioned a new mezzanine at its healthcare regional distribution center (RDC) in Leipzig. CEVA operates the center solely for Medtronic, an international leading manufacturer of medical equipment. The introduction of new product lines to the RDC, as well as higher volumes of the existing product lines, made an extension of capacity necessary, doubling the warehousing space to 14,000 sq m.
In the healthcare center, CEVA is responsible for the distribution of Medtronic medical devices from all its businesses (cardiac surgery, ENT surgery, diabetics, neurology, neurosurgery, spinal surgery, anesthesiology, gastroenterology, urology and orthopedics) to Central and Eastern Europe as well as Israel. The services performed for Medtronic include receipt of inbound goods, inventory management, picking and packaging, outbound products, customs documentation as well as value added services, such as quality control, reverse logistics management and cold storage.
On average 13,000 different products are kept at the site in Leipzig and these are distributed to Medtronic customers in Germany and 25 additional countries. The number of employees has increased to 80, from 65 at the launch of the site in March 2011, and this number is predicted to rise to 120 employees by 2015. An additional conveyor system has been installed in Leipzig, which connects incoming goods with the mezzanine on the upper floor, as well as connecting the collection platform of the mezzanine with the central packaging area on the ground floor.

CEVA opens its largest multi user warehouse facility in Australia
Brisbane, Australia, 12 December, 2013 – CEVA Logistics, one of the world’s leading supply chain management companies, today officially opened its new multi user warehouse complex at Berrinba in Queensland, as part of the company’s commitment to strengthening its operations and expanding its footprint in Australia. The 56,000 sq m Berrinba warehouse and office complex is the largest facility to have been constructed for CEVA in Australia. It is strategically located within a rapidly emerging industrial area in the City of Logan, less than 25 km from Brisbane’s Central Business District. The facility connects quickly with Road, Air and Oceanfreight services, being close to the nearby Logan, Gateway, Ipswich and Pacific highways with easy access to the Port of Brisbane and Brisbane Airport.
Over 70 customers attended the launch ceremony for the site, which was officially opened by Pam Parker, Mayor of Logan City Council, with Tim Edwards, General Manager, Queensland for site developer Australand, and CEVA’s Executive Vice President, Australia and New Zealand, Casey Fisher.
Casey Fisher said: “Our team is very excited about the opening of this multi user facility, which will deliver a range of tangible benefits to our customers’ supply chains through economies of scale, shared overheads, resources, equipment and best practice processes. We have experienced good levels of growth over the past 12 months and the new facility marks an important step forward in addressing new opportunities in the Queensland and Australian marketplaces.”
The Berrinba facility has been designed with advanced infrastructure including continuous loading docks and dock levellers, state of the art racking with a layout configured for maximum efficiency, advanced material handling equipment, integrated IT and warehouse management systems and traffic management for a seamless flow.
Sustainable design features, which gained the site a four star Greenstar rating from the Green Building Council of Australia, include translucent roof sheeting for natural light, high efficiency T5 warehouse lighting, solar hot water systems with high efficiency water fittings, drought resistant landscaping, air cooled air conditioning and rainwater harvesting.
