Regional Brewery and Brewpub to Leverage Industry Expertise and Advanced SaaS TMS Solution for Improved Transportation Planning and Execution
August 28, 2012 (Dallas, TX) – Transplace, a leading provider of transportation management services and logistics technology, today announced that Great Lakes Brewing Company (GLBC) has selected the third party logistics (3PL) provider to handle its North American transportation management activities. GLBC will leverage Transplace’s comprehensive logistics technology and services for improved transportation planning, execution and management of all outbound shipments from its central distribution center to its growing distributor network throughout the Great Lakes region and surrounding areas.
Great Lakes Brewing Company, which is comprised of a brewery and brewpub, was founded in 1988 by brothers Daniel and Pat Conway as the first microbrewery in the state of Ohio and today remains Ohio’s most celebrated and award-winning brewer of lagers and ales. GLBC currently produces over 100,000 barrels annually and serves 13 states and Washington D.C.
“Since our founding, Great Lakes Brewing Company has been committed to providing our customers with a high-quality product and service experience,” said Daniel Conway, president and co-founder of Great Lakes Brewing Company. “It was important for us to select a logistics service provider that understood and aligned with our company culture and values, and would work collaboratively with us to optimize our transportation operations and improve service levels in an environmentally respectful way.”
Transplace will leverage its award-winning technology to streamline the daily operations of GLBC’s freight flows in North America. The 3PL will procure and manage the beer company’s truckload contracts with the carrier community and ensure compliance with temperature requirements associated with beverage shipments.
“The alcohol and beverage industry is a highly competitive marketplace and often requires a flexible and responsive supply chain due to a demanding, widespread distribution network and specific transportation and delivery requirements,” said Matthew Menner, senior vice president, Transplace. “Transplace’s scalable solutions allow us to give growth-oriented companies such as Great Lakes Brewing Company the comprehensive logistics technology and extensive network resources to improve their transportation execution and enable them run just as efficiently as larger enterprises.”
