Leadership and Innovation Are Key Themes for 2010 Transportation Marketing Executive of the Year Award Competition

TMCA Seeks Nominations for Prestigious Award

Princeton Junction, NJ – March 11, 2010 – The Transportation Marketing and Communications Association (TMCA) is accepting nominations for its esteemed Transportation Marketing Executive of the Year Award. The award recognizes a senior-level marketing executive who has demonstrated quality and results-driven success within the marketing industry in the past year.

The recipient will be recognized at this year’s TMCA Annual Conference in Fort Lauderdale , Florida June 6-8, 2010. The deadline for nominations is April 15, 2010. The Transportation Marketing Executive of the Year Award will be given to the nominee who best demonstrates qualities of marketing excellence. Qualified candidates must be a senior-level marketing or communications leader within the North American transportation industry who was responsible for managing and executing marketing programs during the 2009 calendar year.

“The recession has shown that only the strongest will survive in this industry,” said Dick Metzler, president of TMCA. “We’re seeking the marketing executive who has demonstrated the leadership and innovation necessary to make a true impact and help keep their company profitable.” 

The 2009 recipient of the Transportation Marketing Executive of the Year was George Abernathy, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Transplace. He is an accomplished logistics and supply chain executive with more than 25 years of industry experience at both traditional and technology-based, transportation-focused providers. Other recent recipients include Tammy Beil, former vice president of marketing for FedEx Freight in 2008; Mike Russell, vice president for public affairs and press secretary for the American Trucking Associations posthumously in 2007; Chuck Lounsbury, formerly senior vice president of strategy, marketing and acquisitions for Ryder in 2006; Dick Metzler, formerly executive vice president of DHL Express in 2005; and Greg Reid, formerly senior vice president and chief communications officer of Yellow Corp. in 2003.
