WESTERVILLE, Ohio (Sept. 1, 2011) – Power Packaging, an Exel company, has achieved Safe Quality Food (SQF) 2000 Level 2 certification for its rigorous, credible food safety management system. SQF is a leading comprehensive and global food safety and quality management certification system.
All three Power Packaging multi-customer dry food production sites have earned the certification. The sites are located in St. Charles and Batavia , Ill. , and Grand Prairie , Texas . The facilities produce a variety of food and beverage products such as rice and pasta meals, soups, dry drink mixes and seasonings in a variety of flexible form-fill-seal and rigid packaging formats. A fourth facility specializing in aseptic liquid beverage processing, located in Rosendale , Wis. , will pursue SQF certification next year.
“We have always prepared and handled our products in accordance with the highest possible safety standards, but the SQF certification validates our commitment to food quality for our customers and the industry,” said Dave Jensen, Power Packaging’s senior director of quality assurance. “In the future, this certification will become crucial for manufacturers. By obtaining the certification now, Power Packaging is maintaining its industry-leading position that customers have come to expect.”
The SQF certification is evidence of Power Packaging’s comprehensive food safety program that ensures the most stringent approach to delivering high-quality, safe products. The company’s food safety program covers four main areas: Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP); Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP); environmental monitoring; and cleaning and sanitation. Other safety programs include pandemic preparedness, security, full traceability and others.
