Atlanta, December 04, 2009 - The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Business Civic Leadership Center has awarded UPS (NYSE:UPS) its 2009 U.S. Community Service Award for UPS Road CodeSM, the company's teen safe driving program.

"This is a very prestigious honor that recognizes a unique and meaningful program that UPS has launched," said Ken Sternad, president of The UPS Foundation. "It also is a testament to the decades of community involvement and philanthropy that is woven into our culture."

The U.S. Community Service Award was one of four presented Dec. 1 at the Corporate Citizenship Awards, which showcase businesses, trade associations and chambers of commerce for demonstrating ethical leadership and corporate stewardship and for making a positive difference in society.

UPS Road Code is designed to save lives by helping teens become safer drivers. Working with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, UPS volunteers share the company's industry-leading safe driving expertise to meet a community need and prevent teenage deaths. The program features a hi-tech simulator that allows teens to experience real-life situations before they ever get behind the wheel of a car.

"Companies like UPS and the UPS Road Code program serve as an inspiration for all businesses," said Stephen Jordan, the Business Civic Leadership Center's (BCLC) senior vice president and executive director. "UPS's commitment to helping teenagers and saving lives in our communities is particularly commendable in this troubled economy."
