For the fourth year in a row, Volga-Dnepr Airlines’ aviation expertise in Russia has been called into action to support the air unit participating in the Silk Way Rally 2012.
Some 100 cars and 25 trucks competed in the 4,000km event, which includes 2,092.64kms of timed sectors. Competitors began their journey in Moscow and finished six days later in the Russia city of Sochi, host of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
As the holder of a Flight Dispatch and Operations Control License, Volga-Dnepr was once again asked by the organisers to provide support for the seven airplanes and six helicopters that comprise the Silk Way Rally air unit. During the six days of tournament, the fleet of fixed and rotary-winged aircraft flew a combined 339 hours thanks to the air navigation support provided by Volga-Dnepr.
Participants in the event came from 25 countries in Europe, Asia and Southern America. In total the event was watched on television by viewers in some 190 countries.
The Silk Way Rally Management expressed their appreciation to Volga-Dnepr Airlines for once again contributing to the success of the event, Russia’s most significant motor racing competition.
