Doha talks - Statement by EU Trade Spokesman John Clancy

E-mail

Brussels 17 January 2011 - "I can confirm that EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht has invited trade ministers from Australia, Brazil, China, India, Japan and the United States to meet informally on the side-lines of the World Economic Forum in Davos to discuss the way ahead for the Doha Development Agenda (DDA) talks.

This will take place during the afternoon of Friday 28th January. At this stage, it is important to underline that whilst 2011 does present a real opportunity to conclude negotiations, this meeting is just a first step in exploring the way forward and without prejudice to the format of any future meetings. The EU hopes that this gathering can help to build a renewed momentum to the Doha talks in the coming months that can eventually lead to a successful outcome for all sides."

John Clancy, EU Trade Spokesman
