WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello announced today that Boeing will open a new manufacturing facility at MidAmerica St. Louis Airport in Mascoutah. Costello was joined at the announcement, which was held at MidAmerica and attracted a crowd of more than 450 people, by Senator Dick Durbin, Congressman John Shimkus, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn, St. Clair County Board Chairman Mark Kern, regional elected officials and Boeing Defense, Space & Security President and CEO Dennis Muilenburg.
Costello said the expansion will initially bring 75 new jobs to Illinois, with additional jobs expected to follow. Boeing will be doing assembly and subassembly work at the facility. A majority of the jobs would be on site by the first quarter of 2011 and are described as highly skilled aerospace jobs.
“When Boeing opens a manufacturing facility it means jobs, now and in the future as well,” said Costello. “Generally other businesses will follow Boeing, and that’s what we hope for this site today.”
Costello first met with Boeing officials five years ago to discuss the possibility of an expansion location at MidAmerica, which shares a runway with neighboring Scott Air Force Base.
“This decision was not made overnight or with the short term in sight,” said Costello. “Boeing will be here for the long term, and I expect we will be announcing more good news and more jobs in the future.”
