MADRID and ATLANTA - October 19, 2011 - Global supply chain optimization provider Manhattan Associates (NASDAQ: MANH) today announced that El Corte Inglés, Spain’s largest retailer and the world’s second largest department store retailer, has selected multiple components from the Manhattan SCOPE® supply chain solution portfolio as it embarks on a transformation project to replace its legacy enterprise systems. The Manhattan solutions are set to become a core component of the retailer’s supply chain technology platform and will optimize order fulfilment across its multi-channel retail operations.
El Corte Inglés’ retail operations include department stores, hypermarkets, supermarkets, convenience stores, fashion boutiques and specialty retail along with a growing online business.
Manhattan and its local Geopartner Supply Nexus, which serves as a true extension to Manhattan’s business operations in the Iberian Peninsula, will work alongside El Corte Inglés on the implementation project. The deployment will initially focus on supporting El Corte Inglés’ e-commerce operations managed through distribution centers (DCs) in Madrid, before progressing to the company’s entire multi-channel retail operation. Longer term, the Manhattan solutions will support El Corte Inglés’ retail operations in Portugal as well as Spain.
According to El Corte Inglés, Manhattan was selected because of the considerable experience and expertise it has in serving the unique requirements of the retail sector. More specifically, Manhattan has successfully worked with other department store retailers and food retail businesses around the world, making it an obvious choice for El Corte Inglés’ team. With Manhattan’s solutions, El Corte Inglés is confident it will be able to improve productivity in its DCs and improve the overall efficiency of its distribution operations at the same time as being able to optimize service levels across its retail operations.
Steve Smith, senior vice president, EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), at Manhattan Associates, said, "This is another key win for us in Spain and we're excited to be working alongside Supply Nexus to help El Corte Ingles and other forward-thinking enterprises pursue a strategy of supply chain optimization. El Corte Inglés is one of Europe’s most well-known and highly-respected companies, having built its reputation on the quality of its products and the service levels it provides to customers. We’re delighted that El Corte Inglés has selected the Manhattan SCOPE supply chain solutions platform and we look forward to working with El Corte Inglés to help optimize its multi-channel fulfilment operations, streamline its extended supply chain, and facilitate growth in its domestic and international markets over the coming years.”
