The top 100 NVOCCs (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carriers) in January are up from December TEU (twenty-foot container) imports by nearly 8%. The top NVOCCs handled over 450,000 TEUs in January and increased TEUs from January of 2013 by an amazing 22%. Not only that but these leading NVOCCs handled 28% of the total U.S. imports in January.
Expeditors International of Washington was at the top of the list for January. It handled over 38,000 TEUs and increased from December imports by 15% and January of 2013 by 19%. Christal Lines was the second largest NVOCC in January. It processed over 30,000 TEUs and increased from December by 18% and posted nearly 20,000 more TEUs than January of 2013. Blue Anchor America Line was ranked third in January but actually decreased in TEUs from December by 2%. Out of the top 100 NVOCCs, 74% did increase from last month, which makes January trade very busy and is a positive sign as we move into 2014.
