The top 100 NVOCCs (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carriers) in the United States saw a 14% jump in inbound TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) from June, the fourth consecutive month of increases. Compared to last July, TEUs for the top 100 NVOs are up over 5%. A rise in imports was expected for July, as inventories increase for the holiday season, but this big of a rise came as a pleasant surprise.
The top 25 NVOs all posted increases in TEUs carried from June to July, with DSV Transport and Orient Start Transport boasting some of the largets increases. Expeditors, the top NVO on our list, saw an increase in inbound TEUs of nearly 22% from June and 12% from last July. The positive numbers in July are significant because it suggests retailers are expecting an above-average surge for the busiest time of the year…we’ll see if that rings true.
