The top 100 NVOCCs (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carriers) in the United States saw a 1.5% increase in inbound TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) from August, and a 15% increase from last September. The shorter amount of days between Black Friday and Christmas this year, only 25 days, is leaving many retailers having to watch inventories more closely.
Compared to last year, peak season import volumes (July through September) are up 3.3% this year. NVOs that showed significant gains in September include Christal Lines and Honour Lane Shipping, both up 17% from August. In addition Blue Anchor Line, ranked second on our list, saw increases from both last year and last month. Of the top 100 NVOs, 56 saw an increase in TEUs imported since last month and 63 showed increases since last year. September figures continue to suggest similar expectations as last year for the upcoming holiday shopping season.
