§ A strong supporter of the recognition of Burgundy’s climates as UNESCO World Heritage, and as it celebrates its 80th anniversary, the “Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin” partners with CMA CGM and JF Hillebrand to send 420 bottles of great Burgundy wines on a sea journey around the world.
§ Through this unique experience aboard a refrigerated container – known as a reefer – equipped with the latest technology, which will maintain the wine at a constant temperature of 15 ° C, the three partners intend to demonstrate that transport preserves the wine’s aromas and flavours, and that it can thus be exported worldwide and contribute to France’s commercial dynamism abroad.
Marseilles, June 16th, 2014 - On June 14, the CMA CGM Manet, a 2200 TEU vessel, will leave the port of Le Havre with a precious cargo: a pallet of wines from Burgundy, for a journey around the world, across the seas. CMA CGM, the third largest group of container shipping in the world, JF Hillebrand, a global logistics leader in wines and spirits, and the “Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin”, one of the world’s oldest brotherhoods, which this year celebrates its 80 years, unite to promote these wines throughout the world and demonstrate that transport fully preserves the wine’s flavours.
Loaded at the Château du Clos de Vougeot, during a ceremony that took place on June 7, in a high-tech container equipped, these wines will embark upon an 80-day journey across five continents, perpetuating the great tradition of epic journeys inspired by Jules Verne. This trip will begin on June 14 aboard CMA CGM Manet, which will take the precious cargo through the Panama Canal to Sydney. It will then return to France on September 18, 2014, aboard the CMA CGM Azure via the Suez Canal, after calling at New York, Papeete, Noumea, Singapore, Malta, Genoa, Rotterdam or Hamburg.
CMA CGM is proud to offer its expertise in the field of refrigerated shipping for such exceptional wines. They will travel at a constant temperature of 15 ° C, ensuring their protection and proper preservation during transport.
These 420 bottles include the following wines from Burgundy: Crémant de Bourgogne Rosé tasteviné, Saint-Aubin 2010 tasteviné, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru les Saint-Georges Hospices de Nuits 2007 and Corton Renardes Grand Cru 2007 tasteviné.
During a gala dinner that will take place at the Château du Clos de Vougeot on October 25, the “Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin” will organize a wine tasting to compare the wines which have travelled with the wines stored in the Cistercian cellar as a witness. This event, which will mark the end the journey, will perpetuate the Brotherhood’s founders’ commitment to supporting the influence of Burgundy wines worldwide.
