Region America under new management.

Jim Newsome, President of Hapag-Lloyd (America), Inc, has requested to be released from his contract with effect from Aug 31, 2009 to pursue an opportunity outside the firm. "I am very grateful to Hapag-Lloyd for appreciating the reason for my decision and for the wonderful opportunities that I have been provided in what have been twelve very satisfying years. The opportunity to be the CEO of a major port in the South Atlantic is uniquely attractive to me given my overall career experience and family background, with my father having worked in the port business in the region for 25 years,” Newsome commented.

Newsome joined Hapag-Lloyd in 1997 as Senior Vice President of the Southern Area of Hapag-Lloyd (America). He was appointed President in January 2009. Hapag-Lloyd would like to express its great appreciation to Jim Newsome for his years of service.

Jim Newsome will be succeeded by Wolfgang Freese, since 2006 Senior Vice President Area Gulf-Pacific of Hapag-Lloyd (America), based in Houston and thus responsible for the south and west of the USA. Freese joined Hapag-Lloyd in 1971 and has held various specialist and management positions at Hapag-Lloyd in Germany and other countries. He was appointed SVP Area West in May 2000.

The post of Wolfgang Freese will be taken by Salvador (Tony) Bruno, currently SVP Regional Sales, based in Piscataway.
