November 16, 2010 - On November 9, NYK Aquarius, an NYK containership (Flag: Panama; Goss Tonnage: 75,484 tons; Captain: Nag Subir Kumar) rescued 26 Chinese sailors on a troubled cargo vessel in the South China Sea off Vietnam.

The NYK vessel was sailing from Shekou, China, to Vung Tau, Vietnam, on November 9 when a distress call was sent at around 4 p.m. (local time) from a troubled vessel on the verge of sinking. The NYK vessel received a call for help from the Hong Kong Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, and rescue operations were immediately set in motion. At about 8 p.m., 26 of the 27 sailors were rescued from the troubled vessel in the waters east of Vietnam, and the remaining sailor was rescued by another cargo vessel sailing near the site.
 
The rescued sailors are in good health and disembarked from NYK Aquarius at Vung Tau on November 11.
