May 7, 2010 - On April 21, NYK-Fil Ship Management Inc. (NYK-Fil), a Philippine-based subsidiary company of NYK, received the Presidential Award of Excellence from Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo at an awards ceremony held at Malacanang Palace. NYK-Fil's continuous support of the Filipino crew members through its consistent high-quality education and training program was recognized to have greatly contributed to the revitalization of employment of Filipino seafarers from the Philippines.
This was the first time for the Philippine Government to give the Presidential Award to companies (both for the land based and sea-based sectors) who consistently received the Excellence Award for five consecutive years from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) in recognition of the company’s volume/quality of deployment, technical capabilities, compliance with recruitment rules and regulations, industry leadership, and social awareness and responsibility. Out of the six sea-based and three land-based awardees, NYK-Fil was the only Japan-affiliated manning company to be given such award.
NYK-Fil is engaged in the recruitment, selection, education, training, deployment, and management of highly skilled and competent Filipino seafarers for the NYK Group. The company was founded in 1989, and in fiscal year 2009, about 6,500 crew members from NYK-Fil were working within the NYK Group.
NYK continues to devote itself to the education and development of excellent crew members around the world.
