NYK Participates to Accident-Response Drill with 3rd Regional Coast Guard Headquarters

E-mail

NYK participated in an accident-response drill with the 3rd Regional Coast Guard Headquarters on December 2.

The drill scenario had an NYK-operated VLCC (gross tonnage 147,000) involved in a collision resulting in oil leaking into Tokyo Bay. The aim of the drill was to improve the response to an accident involving an oil leak and strengthen the relationship between the public and private sectors. NYK, as the ship-operation company, practiced submitting the required documents and explaining the situation to relevant authorities.

NYK places a priority on safe operations and environmental protection. In addition to this drill, NYK conducts its own major accident-response drill once a year as a part of the Safety Campaign to remind NYK Group members of the importance of safe operations.

Through this drill, NYK once again recognized the great impact that an oil leak could have on society, and the need to maintain a good working-relationship with the Japan Coast Guard and other related parties.
