NYK to Send Support Teams of Volunteers to Area Devastated by the Great East Japan Earthquake

E-mail

September 21, 2011 - NYK will send its group members to an area devastated by the Great East Japan Earthquake and ensuing tsunami.

For three months from October 4, NYK will be seeking about 120 volunteers, who will be sent to Rikuzentakata city in Iwate prefecture in a rotation to assist in activities most needed by the area, such as the removal of mud. Teams of volunteers will consist of NYK Group employees, board members, and former employees of the company.

Six months has passed since the earthquake and tsunami, and because the number of volunteers has been limited, the need for the assistance of others has become increasingly important. Therefore, NYK has decided to coordinate with a local volunteer center to provide this assistance.

NYK will continue its efforts to support those in need to fulfill the group’s commitment to remaining a socially responsible corporation.
