October 27, 2011 - On October 11, 2011, in the City of Long Beach, California, USA, a groundbreaking ceremony was held to celebrate the construction of Baker Park where Orient Overseas Container Line Limited (OOCL) was recognized for its contribution to the local community through this project.
Through the Long Beach Container Terminal (LBCT) Inc., we are pleased to be one of the important funding partners in this public-private partnership project to develop a thriving community space, the Baker Park, with picnic tables and a playground for everyone to enjoy.
Mr. Anthony Otto, President of LBCT, joined Mr. Bob Foster, Mayor of Long Beach, Councilman Mr. James Johnson of the 7th District, and other elected officials and members of the Long Beach community to witness this event as an example of what can happen when good corporate citizens and public agencies work closely together to benefit the community.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Otto said, “LBCT wears many hats in Long Beach. We are a job creator, employing over 400 hard working men and women from the City of Long Beach and surrounding areas that contribute to this region’s economic success. We are an international business engaged in the movement of goods from one end of the world to the other, but always focusing our eye on each and every community in which we operate.”
“But the hat we are proudest to wear today is that of a dedicated community partner. At LBCT, we understand that good corporate behavior extends beyond the boardroom and into the neighborhoods and communities in which we work and play,” he said.
In his comments to this worthy project, Councilman Johnson said, “The backing of LBCT for the Baker Park project represents the very best in corporate citizenship here in Long Beach. The generosity of LBCT should be a model for other businesses in the area and sets a clear example of how the business community and our City departments can work together to benefit the neighborhoods that are in need of more open space and parks”.
Our Group has been an integral part of the Long Beach community for many years and we are very happy with this opportunity to show the positive impact that we, as good corporate citizens, have in this beautiful city.
