(Mainz, 1 March 2010) The Supervisory Board of DB Schenker Rail Deutschland AG has appointed Otto G. Niederhofer (56) to the Management Board with effect from March 1, 2010. Niederhofer will assume responsibility for the newly created "Region Central Production Companies" division and will therefore be in charge of all the production companies which are allocated to Region Central.
The production companies concerned are DB Schenker Rail Nederland, DB Schenker Rail Scandinavia, Nord Cargo (Italy), RBH Logistics, MEG (both Germany) and DB Schenker Rail Schweiz, as well as Cobra (Belgium) and BLS Cargo (Switzerland), companies in which DB Schenker Rail holds a stake.
To date, Niederhofer has been head of Asset Management at DB Schenker Rail.
"I am pleased to announce that with the appointment of Otto Niederhofer, we have found a pronounced rail expert for this position. He will play a crucial role in raising efficiency and cost effectiveness at the DB Schenker Rail companies and thus optimize our European network," commented Dr. Alexander Hedderich, CEO of DB Schenker Rail.
The European rail freight operator DB Schenker Rail consists of the West, Germany/Central and East Regions. Business activities in the regions are handled by capable subsidiaries which act either as full railroad service providers or pure production companies, depending on the requirements of the market concerned. The regions are supported by centrally organized functions such as Sales, Finance and Human Resources.
