Newest Railserve LEAF® Gen-Set Locomotives Equipped for Modular Assembly, Durability and Increased Diagnostics

E-mail

ATLANTA, GA—February 15, 2011 (James Street Media Services)—New Railserve LEAF® Gen-Set Locomotives incorporate a modular networked control system providing increased remote and field diagnostic capabilities, simplified installation, reduced cabling and a more rugged design. The new design units can be provided in kit form–particularly attractive for export customers.

The new control system was developed by Railserve partner Alternative Motive Power Systems (AMPS) for two Gen-Set switch locomotives that are being manufactured by Railserve in Longview, Texas.

In collaboration with AMPS, which is headquartered in Alexandria, OH, Railserve continues to set a higher standard in Gen-Set Locomotive performance and value as proven by the 25 Railserve LEAF locomotives in active customer locations in North America. The Railserve LEAF reduces NOx emissions by 76 percent and cuts fuel consumption by 50 percent, while meeting EPA Tier III 2015 emissions standards.

“The market is expanding rapidly,” says Timothy J. Benjamin, co-president, Railserve. “We are building these two new units in response to rising fuel prices combined with clean air regulations which have created a demand for Gen-Sets in domestic and international markets.”

Developing maximum tractive effort at low speeds, the Railserve LEAF is ideal for in-plant switching locations, shortline railroads, and other industrial services.

The latest Railserve LEAF units incorporate the following new features:
- Improved onboard networked diagnostics
- Larger, more rugged Color Display Screen in cab
- Distributed Input/Output reduces wiring complexity, improves reliability
- Greater in-field diagnostics capabilities

Daniel C. Frederick, president, AMPS, says, “The only difference the user will notice is improved performance. We’ve kept things consistent in the cab with the new control system, with added diagnostics and simplified cabling and installation. We are delighted that Railserve has chosen to move ahead with this system.”
