To help comply with the FDA’s Part 820 storage and handling requirements Remstar has introduced a new automated storage and retrieval system. The combination of the Remstar Shuttle VLM® and the new FastPic®5 OP inventory management software provides medical device and manufacturing (MDM) companies with improved accuracy, increased productivity and maximized storage density. Remstar will be exhibiting the new automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) in booth #2537 at the Medical Device & Manufacturing East Show in New York, from June 9th -12th, 2009.
The software and automated equipment combination allows for the segregation and tracking of non-conforming products while preventing the accidental release of quarantined items. By providing electronic documentation of compliance with appropriate stock rotation programs, the system also helps ensure that expired devices are not shipped. These systems come with compliant user access controls for added security, allowing supervisors to track individual worker access to devices and materials, plus provide detailed management reports of pick and put activity.
The new automated system can increase accuracy levels up to 99.9% by reducing the potential for human error with optimized pick lists, bar code verification and pick and put-to-light. When integrated, pick-to-light devices, bar code scanning and software routines provide the highest levels of picking and putting precision while simplifying employee training requirements and significantly increasing productivity and throughput.
The system can take advantage of unused overhead space to recover up to 85% of the floor space required by traditional rack and shelving systems, allowing more productive use of that floor space. The advanced cubing algorithms of FastPic5 OP and the Shuttle VLM CubeStar® technology allow users to maximize every square inch of storage space.
The new automate system improves inventory control and order processing efficiency by reducing the reliance on manual paper reports, improving overall risk management. It can also be used for securely organizing critical records such as MDR’s, DHR’s, and IIR’s as well as other non-regulated applications such as R&D, facilities maintenance and management of office supplies.
FastPic5 offers a bi-directional interface to the SAP Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) system, providing organizations the flexibility to seamlessly incorporate this system into an existing facility.
Remstar International Inc., a company of the Kardex AG Remstar International (KRI) Group of Zurich, Switzerland, is a leading provider of automated storage and retrieval systems for manufacturing, distribution and warehousing applications.
