Leverages Wi-Fi RFID to Improve Efficiency and Patient Care Across Multiple Facilities
CHICAGO (HIMSS Conference), April 6, 2009 - AeroScout, Inc., the leading provider of Unified Asset Visibility for the healthcare industry, today announced that Yale-New Haven Hospital has selected its Asset Management and Temperature Monitoring solutions to improve staff efficiency and patient care.
Yale-New Haven will use the AeroScout solutions to more efficiently manage and track approximately 1,000 medical assets such as infusion pumps, and to monitor the temperatures of refrigerated items. The solution leverages Yale-New Haven’s existing Cisco Unified Wireless Network, enabling campus-wide asset tracking and condition monitoring at a low total cost of ownership.
Yale-New Haven Hospital is a 944-bed tertiary referral center that includes the 201-bed Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital and the 76-bed Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital. Yale-New Haven regularly ranks among the best hospitals in the United States. Relying on the skills of approximately 2,200 university-based and community physicians, the healthcare organization provides services for more than 503,000 outpatient and emergency visits and 50,000 discharges each year.
“We have a very active hospital spread out across a large campus, so we needed a more efficient way to track critical medical equipment and a better way to monitor the temperature of refrigerators for compliance and patient care purposes,” said Carlos G. Lourenco, director of materials management at Yale-New Haven Hospital. “Therefore, it was critical that we selected a proven healthcare solution that offers a broad range of applications.”
Yale-New Haven Hospital completed the first phase of the deployment, consisting of AeroScout’s MobileView software and approximately 200 AeroScout Wi-Fi Tags in February 2009 and is in the process of deploying the remaining 800 tags. AT&T, which has extensive experience in the healthcare industry, recommended the AeroScout solution to Yale New-Haven.
“Whether a large, prestigious, academic health system or a smaller community hospital, all healthcare organizations need proven solutions with a low total cost of ownership,” said Gabi Daniely, vice president of marketing and product strategy at AeroScout. “Yale-New Haven Hospital is able to leverage its existing Wi-Fi infrastructure to add valuable asset tracking and temperature monitoring applications, helping improve operational efficiency and keep its quality of care at elite levels.”
AeroScout will be showcasing its Healthcare Visibility Solutions in booth #860 at the HIMSS 2009 conference held in Chicago on April 4 – 8.
